Ideas for Improving Spelling
To teach students who have difficulty with spelling:
Use flash cards to go over the letter sounds and spelling of commonly missed words. To review particular sounds for example: /ch choose -a word your student already knows such as children that contains this sound.
Give students only a few words to spell at one time. Stick to words that they need to use when they write.
Have students create their own spelling lists and quizzes. Have them work on words that occur in their own writing or those which fit with their personal goals.
Have students practice spelling on the computer. This method gives them immediate feedback.
